
Malang, August 28, 2025 – The Nutrition Science Program at Universitas Negeri Malang hosted a Guest Lecture on Wednesday, August 28, 2025, from 8:00 AM to 11:20 AM WIB. The lecture was attended by undergraduate students from various cohorts of the Nutrition Program and was also open to the public. The event took place at the FMIPA auditorium, Building B20.
The event began with welcoming remarks from the Dean of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA), Prof. Dr. Hadi Suwono, M.Si., who expressed his appreciation and support for the program as a platform for expanding knowledge and fostering innovation in food technology.
The guest lecture featured two distinguished speakers. The first was Mr. Jumardi Bin Roslan, Ph.D., a senior lecturer at the Faculty of Food Science and Nutrition, Universiti Malaysia Sabah. His presentation, “Banana-Based Food Technology to Tackle Malnutrition”, highlighted the potential of banana fruit and peel as raw materials for highly nutritious food innovations. Examples included green banana flour, high-fiber biscuits, low glycemic index pasta, instant therapeutic foods, probiotic yogurt, and healthy snacks.
The second presentation was delivered by Mrs. Endah Susanty, S.KM. from the Malang City Health Department. Her lecture, “Local Nutrition Optimization and Innovation for Malnutrition Prevention and Management in Malang City”, addressed nutrition policies, the current nutritional situation in Malang, and specific intervention programs. These included anemia screening, iron tablet supplementation for adolescent girls and pregnant women, local supplementary feeding (PMT), exclusive breastfeeding, and complementary feeding practices. She also discussed the challenges, obstacles, and strategies in implementing local PMT programs, along with recommendations for future improvements.
Following the presentations, participants showed strong interest, as reflected in their enthusiastic questions and discussions. At the closing of the event, an award was presented to the speakers by Mrs. Zahra Anggita Pratiwi, S.Gz., M.P.H., Head of the Nutrition Study Program at FMIPA UM.
It is hoped that through this guest lecture, the Nutrition Study Program can continue to collaborate with other faculties and universities to share knowledge and broaden academic horizons. Furthermore, this initiative is closely aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly:
- SDG 2: Zero Hunger, by promoting innovative approaches to food and nutrition;
- SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being, by addressing malnutrition prevention and public health; and
- SDG 4: Quality Education, by providing inclusive and cross-institutional learning opportunities.
